While in my backyard, I noticed how the light was coming right through our tree that has a curl in the leaves, creating a very interesting shadow pattern. I grabbed my camera and started to take pictures messing around with different angles so the shadows would reflect different ways. This image really stood out to me because of the positioning of the shadows on my face and the contrast within the image. I feel it accurately communicates the word shadow.

For the word Different I wanted to create an image, then change an aspect to make it different from the original. With this one, I chose to change the colors from the original (Green leaves, and blue watering bucket) to purple/pink leaves and a bright pink watering bucket. Changing the colors reminds me of a fiction world where the plants are all different types of colors, and styles different from Earth. But no matter what world they are from, they need some good H2O to keep them alive and well.

There are many crows in my neighborhood, always lingering on the power lines (Probably looking for some food) but this time, these crows really caught my eye. I saw them just chilling on the wire hanging out. I thought that with the bright blue sky, the contrast of them and the power line looked very nice. It was a interesting perspective taking it from below looking up. But I love the color the sky had and really makes the image pop.
|
Continuing on my scavenger quest, I chose to portray my shoe for Familiar. I chose to do this because these are some of my favorite shoes I own and are a very familiar part of my style. I love wearing them, and have become so known to people around me because they are always on my feet. They are so familiar to me, and I wanted to capture them using some natural light coming through the trees.
|
Lately in my backyard, we have had a massive amount of garden spiders. As I don't have really a fear of spiders, I know many people who do and can hardly look at them. I have mixed feelings about them, but this one caught my eye.
I was taking a picture of a neighboring spider when a huge gust of wind came and destroyed most of its web. It was barley dangling on so I wanted to get a picture of it capturing the fear it could possibly have flying in the wind hanging on for dear life. It tried to go one the other spiders web, but was met with aggression for entering its territory so it retreated back. They truly have the fearful look, but can be quite interesting up close. |
Convention center Black and Whites |
1/28/18
Project: Self run Objective: So today was the International Auto show, showcasing the new cars of 2018. While a lot of the cars were so nice, some of my favorite things that I saw where the motorcycles that were showcased. They had a pretty chrome finish that would reflect and be like a mirror. I walked around the area too, snapping pictures of places that had nice architecture or people in the area. Overall It was a super fun day, nice cars and shiny motorcycles. |
Sunny
|
1/14/18
Project: Self run Objective: I was so excited to wake up today and for the sun to be shining! It was very windy out, but when the sun it out, the whole city comes alive. I walked around the park capturing images with the vibrant green color I love, some of the people enjoying the sun, and especially playing the guitar. |
Pacific Northwest Green |
1/9/18
Project: Self Run Objective: Nothing beats the vibrancy and greenery of the Pacific Northwest. It's so unique and stunning, I can always recognize it in pictures. I love getting to walk around every day and see this color. Today I wanted to capture that color, so I took pictures of my favorite plants/places that showcased this vibrant green color. It was nice walking in the rain and taking pictures of nature. |
Backyard Bamboo Self Portraits |
1/6/18
Project: Self Run Objective: On this wonderful Saturday, the sunlight was so beautiful in my backyard. In the winter, this type of sunlight can be rare, so I quickly got out my camera and took some portrait photos. I wanted to keep the green tones of the image, so I decided to wear my camouflage jacket so I could accomplish that. Overall it was so nice to get some Vitamin D, and take some self-portraits! |
Color to Black and white pictures |
1/1/18
Project: Self-run Objective: On New Year's day, I woke up to the nicest sunlight coming through my living room windows. Wanting to start the New Year on a good note, I got out my camera, tripod, and camera remote to take some black and white images under the sun. I set up the shot and took the pictures with my cameras Black and White filter. In Post-production with my pictures, I took them into Lightroom CC to add the colors. I used the light color curve to add red hues, then contrasting them with blue to make purples. Overall I enjoyed laying in the sun and taking pictures in the fresh year. The colors came out very vibrant giving the light a warmer feeling. |
California Travels |
12/28/17
Project: Self-run Objective: As I enjoyed spending winter break with my family in California, I of course had to take pictures of the beautiful sunsets and palm trees. California is like a second home to me, I have been there so much and always enjoyed the sunsets there. It was so nice not being in the cold weather for a week, and to have fun with my family, and take some pictures of the areas we traveled along the PCH. |
Projected light portraits |
12/18/17
Project: Self-run Objective: On this lovely day, my friends and I decided to get together, and make gingerbread houses. As we had a blast doing that, I wanted to take portrait pictures of them using my projector. I have done this before, and it always turns out wonderfully. I placed the projector at different angles so that the light would hit different parts of their face. The projected light is orange, while the blue light comes from my phone showcasing a blue photo on the screen, I would do the blue light on the side that has no orange light hitting the face, that would then reflecting onto the shadowed area. This creates an amazing blue and orange sunset-like colorway to the portraits. We had a lot of fun taking pictures and further developing my skill with projected light photography. |
Christmas decorations 2017 |
12/10/17
Project: Self run Objective: For the past couple weeks, my family and I have been decorating our house for Christmas! These are four galleries of our decorations around the house with explanations of their meanings. |
Curve editing
|
12/9/17
Project: Self Run Objective: So on my phone, I have the pocket version of Lightroom. While editing a picture I took at school I found this cool feature called 'Curve' that lets you adjust colors of the pictures. So just experimenting I did extreme edits of the picture to see what it would do. It reminded me of thermal images, but instead of the basic colors, I had pinks, teals, and other colors. |
Before and After
|
12/7/17
Project: Class assignment Class: Digital media Objective: For this assignment, we were tasked to take five images of our choosing and edit them on Lightroom CC to create an after picture. I used different tools and settings for these images. The picture on the left side is the before picture with no edits made, and then the second is the after picture with added edits and a breakdown of those. I had a fun time learning new tools on Lightroom, getting to use them, then comparing the image to the original to see the improvement. |
The Healing tool
|
11/30/17
Project: Class assignment Class: Digital media Objective: Today in class we learned how to do the healing/cloning tool in Adobe Lightroom CC. With this, we were tasked to take a couple of our own images and experiment with it. I took a picture of a fire hydrant in my neighborhood with graffiti on it to use the healing tool. As I think the graffiti looks great on the fire hydrant ( I did research to see what the meaning of the symbols is, and it is not a Satanic symbol. It is the alchemical symbol for sulfur, meaning 'Soul' ) I just wanted to see what it would look like without it. I used the cloning tool to match the area of the fire hydrant. I added some saturation to the image, also I included using the contrast tool and added a warmer tone. The next image was taken at the beach. There was this very annoying branch that landed in the picture. So with my new Lightroom skills, I used the cloning tool to remove it. With that I used the healing brush to clean up some of the lines that were a little bold, feathered the cloned image also to make it appear more natural. I also added a tiny bit of vibrancy and saturation to the image. |

Vignette tool
|
11/28/17
Project: Class assignment Class: Digital media Objective: For this assignment, we were to experiment with Adobe Lightroom CC. The tools that we learned how to do today were the Black and white mode (Hit 'V' on the keyboard), creating a virtual copy to compare the original image and the edited (Control apostrophe- ctrl '), the vignette tool and finally the highlight brush. For my images, I used the portraits of my dad to work with the tools we learned. The far left image is original with no edits made to it, the middle is the black and white that Lightroom creates for the image, then the final picture has my edits made to the picture. I used the vignette tool to make the picture look less flat, and added highlights to the picture. With the final picture also, I cropped a little of the boom so there wasn't a lot of black space. Onto the second picture I edited images of my dog Lulu, I did the same thing of adding the Lightroom Black and White. With the final images, I added the vignette, added more of a contrast to it, and cropped the image to have a picture where to can really focus on the subject without a lot of blank space. |
Shayne's Senior portraits |
11/29/17
Project: Self run Objective: My great friend Shayne is a senior, and she asked me if I could do her senior portraits. So during the day, the sun was perfect out. There were no clouds, all natural sun, so it was a perfect day for senior portraits. We had a lot of fun walking around the neighborhood and taking pictures. I loved getting the opportunity to take photos for a friend, especially her senior portraits. |
Portraits of my dad |
11/27/17
Class: Digital media Objective: For this project my dad and I went up to our local park and I took portrait photos of him. For these I wanted to work with the lighting, especially in the forest, while focusing on his facial expressions to give the emotion of the image. I had a fun time making dad jokes (Ironic) behind the camera to get a laugh and then take the picture. |
Thanksgiving family portraits |
11/23/17
Class:Digital Media Objective: In relation of the Polaroid Thanksgiving Portrait project previous to this, these pictures were the same night, but taken on my camera instead. I chose to take them in Black and white being that it added a more simplistic feel to it. Its hard to explain, but it felt right to have them in Black and white and not color. I took photos of my family members making dinner, and talking while we waited for food. My Nana was a chef at her restaurant for 48+ years, so I felt it was important to capture the moment while she was in her natural element. My family and I just had fun taking pictures, I tried to capture them in a candid state, but it can be hard when your camera makes a loud shutter noise. We joked around and enjoyed each others company. |
Polaroid Thanksgiving portraits |
11/23/17
Class:Digital media/self run Objective: In this project, we were instructed to take portraits of out loved ones during time spent together. As part one of my project, I decided to do 10 Polaroids of each family member showcasing them at our dinner at my Nana's house. I had a great time at dinner, being with family and eating wonderful food. |
Little red riding hood portraits |
11/22/17
Project: Self Run Objective: For this project, I wanted to showcase this color of red. My Japanese maple tree in my backyard was so pretty, and I got a hoodie recently with the same colors, so I created a series with that in mind. |
Still life |
10/31/17
Class:Digital media Artist Statement: For my project for still life I took a photo of my gnome homes I created, in a area of a tree to add this secret city essence. With the gnome homes, I feel they are life and also childhood in the thematic intent category of still life.I think this because as kids we always image the gnome homes, and maybe even see them sometimes. It personally reminds me of going up to the park to hunt for the gnome homes that people would make in the stumps of trees. But it also shows life because it is in a surrounded area of moss, leaves, and trees giving it a life element to it. Another aspect to where it could be life is that houses are normally seen where people spend a lot of their lives too. |
Old school |
10/29/17
Project:Self Run Objective: This was just a little experiment to broaden new looks of my photography. I heard of this app called Huji Cam which allows you take photos on your mobile device, but make it look like you took them on a disposable camera. So today I just took photos of things I saw that would look cool with this style. |
Smashed
|
10/25/17
Project:Self run Objective: So today I was at the pumpkin patch, and I noticed how many pumpkins were smashed in. As we try to decorate our pumpkins to look super scary (especially for Halloween to scare all those vampires and ghosts) what is more scary than a dying, rotting, moldy and unwanted pumpkin. They are kinda the sad misfits of the pumpkin world. Just sitting there, with no chance of being carved or picked by a family. As I looked at the closely I noticed the details of the decomposing state, and what could have happened to them. They are not five star pumpkins, but there is still this subtle look to them that draws the eye. So while walking around to look for our perfect pumpkin, I also looked for the worst ones to document their tragedy showing how their story ended. As ugly as they can be, I still find the beauty in them with their bright color, and the shapes of their seeds and how they lay on the Earth. |
Adobe Lightroom
|
10/24/17
Class:Digital Media Objective: For this assignment we were to experiment with Adobe Lightroom. We really just go to see how the program worked, with instruction on the tools offered in it and how to use it effectively. We were given 30 pictures to choose from (Photos for this project were taken by Vanessa Hughes), and just see what we could do with them. We got to just do trial and error and find what worked for us best.I incorporated my use of color that I love in photos, and also got to try new ways of editing photos to help benefit me in the future. |
Black and White contrast Portraits |
10/23/17
Self Run Objective: This project was just a little night creativity spark. I had a cool idea of taking some Black and White portraits with different lighting angles. Late night ideas always are my favorite. |

1 in 1700 |
10/2/17
Class: Digital Media Artist statement: For this project, my intentions are to show the style in which I take photos, but also represent me as a person. As I like to take portrait photos, the outdoors and nature is really important to me, and inspirational. Part of who I am is getting to go to different places, and experience the area in its natural form, but also include aspects of it that are often overlooked. I hope to achieve a look into my thought process and creation of photos. With that I also want to showcase my most common places I see, such as Mt.Tabor, and also the ones around me like my family and pets who really represent a big part of my life. My goal for the viewer is for them to create a story in their head about each photo and why it is in this series. |
Beach trip |
10/1/17
Project:Self run Objective: In this project it was more of an adventure. As with reason we went to the beach was for a project, my dad and I traveled around to different beaches, and captured it candidly. The water provided a nice glossy reflection, to be able to mirror a subject there. The trees and coastline provided interesting fields of depth, and also strong areas for contrast. The strong rock formations of the beach also added a nice texture to pictures. It was very nice to go to the beach, and take photos. It was a very fun little day trip. There was also a nicely colored beach house that was great to take portrait photos in front of. The peachiness provided a great backdrop, especially with the blue walls. Overall the beach is a very great place to take photos, while also seeing some natural design that is featured there. |
