Passion Project #3 5/24/19 Project: Class assignment Class: Digital Media Artist statement: For my third and final passion project in digital media I have been reflecting on my years in high school. Through the ups and downs, it is a time in my life I will always remember and cherish. It is crazy how very soon I will be entering a new chapter in my life. I wanted to create a final project I will look back on, and be a documentation of the amazing people who have supported and been there with me these past four years. With that I didn’t just want to take a portrait of them, I wanted to take a portrait of them and capture their energy and aura with colors and background. With that I created each image for the individual and their amazing energy they carry. Each person is so unique, individual and compassionate and it was my goal to capture that in a portrait to represent that.

Ghosted
Passion Project #2 3/22/19 Project:Class assignment Class:Digital Media Artist Statement: For my second passion project I wanted to create a more darker photo series. From a young age I have always been fascinated in paranormal activity. I watched (and still do) ghost hunting shows, paranormal movies, and read a lot of stories about paranormal folklore. I think it would be really cool opportunity to work on my photoshop skills, and challenge my editing abilities by having to create layered images depicting a figure with less opacity than the background.
With that I also wanted to create a photo series that is a metaphorical representation of some things that are happening in my personal life. There are many times where I feel very isolated and alone, as a ghost might feel as a entity of in betweens. It has always been hard for me to reach out when I am at a time of despair or sadness. Much of the time I tend to "disappear" or become less present, so in order to represent that I decided to portray myself as a "ghost," in addition to my cat who lacks the ability to verbally communicate with us.
I understand completely that not everyone believes in ghosts, especially with these staged photographs. I want the audience to think about the possibility and how it would look if we were able to see a full visualization of a spiritual entity, and how they would interact. I personally believe in spirits/ghosts because I've experienced a few paranormal things that couldn’t be explained, with also family members having occurrences too. I wanted these images to reflect old Black and White photographs I have seen, while taking on a new look with multiple translucent subjects in one photo.
Overall I am really proud how these photos turned out. I was challenged with having to take multiple photos then layering them to create the final result. I had a lot of fun experimenting with editing, and also the positioning of the subject in each photo. This is something I would like to continue with different settings, but overall I wanted to create photos that would correlate with each location. This project also helped me find a better understanding of my own mental space and allowed me to have a platform to visually convey that.
Passion project #2 proposal
2/1/18 Project:Class assignment Class:Digital Media Objective: For second semester, 3rd quarter of the 2019 school year we are creating our second passion project. Before we start we have to write up a proposal so share our intentions and goals for this project. This is mine for this passion project:
Mirror Mirror, not on the wall
Passion project #1 5/8-5/22-2018 Project:Class assignment Class:Digital Media Artist statement: For my passion project, I chose to create a photo essay using one mirror to reflect an area out of frame. I set the camera looking in the mirror, typically facing down, then placed the mirror and pointed it so the camera would pick up what it was reflecting. My challenge with this was to make sure I was taking a picture with a complimenting angle for the viewer to see the reflection that was out of frame, and also make sure my camera did not make an appearance in the mirror. All images had no use of photoshop to create the reflection.
This idea came from my everlasting motto to find the hidden gems in commonly looked over things. Every day when I walk through the halls of high school, my neighborhood, and the streets of Portland I see people either walking while on their phones looking down, or avoiding eye contact by looking down. They miss so much when they look down because the beautiful landscape, architecture, nature is right there in front of them. So I will be placing the mirrors in positions that will create a reflection of somewhere out of frame that you could be missing while you are looking down. My goal is to try to have the viewers consider putting down the phone, to see a different aspect of their location they might typically not see every day. There are so many little things that never get any spotlight because people never notice them, so I want to showcase that and also for the viewer to allow themselves to be more observant.
